I read something the other day that days after trauma, when you are no longer in ‘fight or flight’ your body starts to heal as well as your mind. That means you do things slower, rest and sleep more
I wish someone had told my body it can rest and sleep more once I get home!
Hong Kong A.D, (after Disney) was interesting but exhausting! The heat was not fun. You know you look at the temperature first, 32 degrees most days, but then you look at the ‘feels like’ 37 and already I know I don’t want to go out in that!
However, I pushed myself.
What did not help is that I booked myself into a hotel in Kowloon rather than Hong Kong island. The problem with planning a four month trip in six weeks is not doing enough research!
I had a 45 minute walk each morning to the Star Ferry and yes, I could have got the subway, but you miss seeing so much when you’re underground!

Walking in Kowloon has surprises for the unsuspecting walker. Every time I got dripped on I didn’t want to think what it might be until the second morning when I realised it was either drips from the air conditioning vents in the flats above or, with the real pools of water, those were from the freshly washed clothes hanging outside the windows of flats on the 4th floor and above!
I’m not great at being out alone in the dark and on my first night walking back to the hotel, I did wonder if I was perhaps in a red light district. My suspicions once second night when the same young ladies were in the same spots. It didn’t seem likely they were waiting for a taxi in the same place two nights running!
The Scottish folk reading this will no doubt raise a wee smile when I tell you the red light area ran between Sundays and Argyle Streets!
Everyone in HK seems to have their head buried in their phones! I saw one person walk into a lamppost, one into one of those heavy looking fire hydrant and multiple fall off the pavement. I was also going to comment on just how slowly people walk there but maybe that is because their heads are in their phones!
There also seems to be the quest for the ‘perfect’ photo. It just seems bizarre to me. I watched the fab light show at the harbour last night and all around me there were folk taking selfies or, boyfriends, husbands, etc, standing with a camera, snapping away, the girl checking the photos, clearly not happy and getting even more photos taken!
There was a group of three, maybe four girls last night next to me, all taking it in turns to take the photos and then swapping in and out.
This stunning 10 minute light and laser show was taking place in the harbour behind them and they saw absolutely none of it as they wanted the perfect Instagram photo…
It just baffles me. Yes, take a photo or two but if someone asked those girls about the show they couldn’t say anything about it!
Live life folks, don’t just document it!
