I went to Safeway this morning! Who from the UK remembers going to Safeway for shopping? I think it was Morrisons who bought them out.
Anyway, it is the local grocery store here in Ewa, O’ahu, Hawai’i. Whether or not it is the same brand – who knows! The logo does look quite similar. I should probably add here that I am currently pet sitting in Ewa (pronounced Eva). Before I came on this trip I joined a website called Trusted Housesitters and I’m currently on my first sit with the lovely Cardi (cat) and Lali (dog). Spending time in a house after three weeks in hotels (it seems longer) is lovely – I made my own dinner last night hence why I was in Safeway this morning – I get to make my own dinner tonight and tomorrow too!
Safeway is only a five minute walk away and I found it very interesting wandering round although it was busy – given tomorrow the USA turns 250! People interest me as does their behaviour. Bear in mind Hawai’i is a group of islands, one who is strict about what you can bring onto the islands. They have protected animals and are quite aware of the eco system. So maybe I stared a little to hard at the man who was taking his salad, already in a pre-packaged plastic box, and putting it into a plastic bag. Equally with the bagged salad. Can someone explain to me why you would take a plastic bag of salad and put it into another plastic bag? Possibly even putting it into another plastic bag to transport it home in their car!
As for the prices in the grocery store – gosh! $10 for a block of cheese, $3 for a pepper, $2 for an apple and $8 for a bag of Caesar salad! Crazy. Mind you, I did save $13.45 by signing up for a customer account! I’ve no idea what phone number I used, but someone somewhere in the US probably now have a text from Safeway!
