The Weather

It was supposed to rain in Waikiki today and drop down to a frightfully chilly 24 degrees! It didn’t!

I’m back in Waikiki after my few days pet and house sitting down in Ewa Beach. If I’d thought properly or indeed been a wee bit more organised (did I tell you I sorted this in six weeks!) I think I’d have gone to another island for a day or two but 1) I was a bit short on planning time and 2) I did not expect to love Hawai’i as much as I am – and that’s without even seeing Lilo or Stitch! Mind you, on the tour the other day we were driving the same road that Lilo and Nani were driving on in the live action movie that was out last year – did I mention that already? Haha.

The local convenience store here is called ABC stores. Tonight I was out for a wee wander and I could see three of them when standing to cross the road! Waikiki itself is 1.5 square miles and there are 34-40 ABC stores in that area! Locals apparently say it stands for All Blocks Covered! They are not wrong!

I walked down to the beach this evening to see the sunset – the beach was so busy! Even at 7pm there were folk out swimming and surfers surfing! I felt after my one lesson last week I could probably give them some pointers but the Hawaiians seem to struggle with my accent so I didn’t bother…

There were a bit too many clouds tonight so not the best sky for the sunset but it was just magical standing on the beach watching and listening to the power of the waves. I think “sand walking” should be a new Olympic sport – that is not easy!

I like to try new and usually local things when I am on my travels and this evening (in an ABC store you’ll be surprised to hear) I sould a wonderful product called Summer Club! Summer Club is a woman owned local company here in Hawai’i that makes wine spritzers in a can! There are places I’ve struggled to get a wine as it is such a bear culture in certain places but tonight my Pogmosa (passion fruit and orange juices and guava puree make up the POG) was delicious. Not only are they local and women owned, but the product is also vegan and gluten free! Clearly by drinking it I was doing good…

Nothing too much planned for tomorrow as yet, but that is the beauty of solo travel – I can please myself! Until next time – Aloha!
