Pioneer Park is a 44 acre historical “theme” park in Fairbanks. It’s about two miles outside of the main town, but it was a gorgeous day, only two miles and, after sitting in the train for so long on Saturday, I knew the walk would be good.

You can walk all the way along the Chena River from downtown to the park and it is a lovely walk however, those mosquitoes seemed to just just out of the water and the vegetation to bite me – how kind!

The Park has everything you could want for a wee day out, especially for families! The train was out of action but, I didn’t really mind – I didn’t think they’d have a private gold class carriage for me!

The gold rush town was pretty cool, and they had little old cabins that had been moved to the park from Downtown Fairbanks. There was also plenty of machinery from the gold rush era.

Tomorrow I head south (again) to Anchorage, my final stop in both Alaska and the US before moving on to country number two in this trip, eeek!
