San Antonio!

What a lovely place! It just goes to show you, you shouldn’t judge a state by one of the states! The people here are so friendly – everyone says hello! The city is also very clean – there are people employed to keep the streets clean, they all have yellow t-shirts on and more than one have welcomed me to their city and asked if I need any help finding anywhere!

The biggest attraction here is The Alamo which I walked to on my arrival on Sunday. There is a lot of work going on in the area just now but there is still plenty to see and a lot of history to learn. I’m sure most of us have heard of Davy Crockett and “Remember the Alamo” but it was interesting to learn more about it. The fight for Texas independence reminded me a little of that part in the Declaration of Arbroath that says “For as long as a hundred of us remain alive, we will never on any conditions be subjected to the lordship of the English”

Yesterday I had booked a lour to get our of the city for the day to visit Lyndon B Johnson’s ranch, Fredericksburg and Luckenbach – I just fancied something different. After waiting at the pick up spot for 30 minutes it seemed the t0ur wasn’t going ahead! At least it was an early start so I hadn’t wasted any of my day and so explored the Riverwalk yesterday both by day and by night. I love wandering in a new city – you never know what you might find!

Oh, talking about things you might find, I went to the post office yesterday for some stamps. The Post Office here is in the Federal Court Building, it is the fanciest and most old fashioned Post Office I have ever been in! I’ve also never had to go through a metal detector and have my bag scanned to go to a Post Office before! let’s hope the Royal Mail doesn’t start that.

This morning I plan to wander the Riverwalk in the opposite direction and perhaps visit the Tower of the Americas! There is a movie (Hamilton) on tonight at Hemisfair Park (the area that was used for The World’s Fair in 1968) so I might take myself off to that too! San Antonio is my oyster today!
