Something I’ve realised, and appreciated a bit more recently is how small each one of us are in this massive place we call earth.
Yesterday I took the cable car in Wellington and the views there were absolutely stunning.

In Hawai’i I had similar thoughts. I did wonder if this was because both Hawai’i and New Zealand are volcanic. I’m not very good with science, but I can appreciate how impressive these islands are and how stunning the scenery is because of the massive disruption caused by nature. Hopefully that makes some sense!

The third place I’ve visited that made me realise how small, and indeed insignificant we all are, was Alaska. New Zealand, Hawai’i and Alaska all have so much water and again, that is something else that makes me feel small. The wide expanse of the seas, the roaring waters as rivers converge and the seemingly never ending oceans. Where does the ocean end and the sky begin?
I know that sometimes, if I am with someone and stare out across the water or the hills/mountains, they get a bit impatient as I do stand looking for a very long time – at least on this trip if I want to stand and look, nobody tells me to hurry up! I might never be back in many of these places and so I want to try and save those views to memory. Photographs are one thing, but recalling memories of a time, a place, a smell, a feeling are quite another.
